![]() She quickly learned those items were no longer needed and would be packed away with her skis. I recall her telling how she arrived in Dallas, Texas while 7 months pregnant, in the middle of the summer wearing her Alaskan fur coat and mukluks. Rita received news that her adventures were taking a new path to the great state of Texas. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, she also earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Alaska. ![]() Her adventures continued as she taught at Mountain View Elementary School, hiked over glaciers, cross-country skied, panned for gold, and steered clear of wild moose. If becoming an elementary school teacher wasn’t crazy enough, Rita moved to Anchorage, Alaska where she married Will Turner. She graduated in 1966 earning a degree in Education. After surviving her childhood, Rita attended California State College which was in her hometown. I have been told stories of her swallowing a quarter and jumping off a shed and splitting open her tongue. Rita was born in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, but grew up in California, Pennsylvania where she would share many adventures in her Italian household with her older brother, Ron, younger sister, Carol, and younger brother, Rick. ![]() All that knew her regarded her as one of the strongest people they knew due to her incredible spirit and determination. She valiantly fought a 15-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease with such fortitude. Rita Anne Turner, 79, of Plano, Texas passed away on Jat Cottages of Chapel Creek in Frisco, Texas.
